Photographer's Note

This is a very ordinary sight from a street anywhere in Vietnam. Live poultry of all kinds, as well as live fish, can be bought anywhere.

This photo is from Duong Dong, the only town on the island of Phu Quoc off the Vietnamese southwestern coast. The island is actually much closer to Cambodia than to the Vietnamese mainland and is claimed by Cambodia. To ward off any possible (and rather improbable) Cambodian attack, there is a heavy military presence on the northern part of the island, which is strictly off limits to foreigners.
