Hello Gert. It is always interesting to watch the craftsmen at work. I know from personal experience that these people do a good job. This tailor will make ladies jeans, as the text explained below. The photo pleases me very well.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

Even if the States have lost the Vietnam war, they could have settled their industry: blue jeans and US army hats for sale!
Good street life report.

Kia ora Gert,

A good street daily life shot!
Super reportage work.

The last time I visited my old country in 2007 I saw tailors still using this type of sewing machine. Nicely captured with good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.

I like how the tight framing corresponds to the limited space this gentleman uses for his work. But the open air and the interesting view he has to the street must be rewarding. The tight frame leads us to concentrate on all the details and textures available so that we grasp the scene well. I like very much the gentleman's care and attention to his work. The hat he's wearing was a surprise for me. I like the combination of bright and subdued colours. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

Ciao e buona serata

Like Patrick I cannot view this without scrolling. Nevertheless, this is a superb shot that is typical of the area with an old sewing machine providing an important source of income. A well taken image with the tailor looking natural as he carries on with his work.
Kind Regards, Ann

Excellent daily life shot. As naturally I don't understand the language, the lower part of the frame is less important to me. Nice selection of colours on those jeans. Old sewing machines are awesome. They kee on going for ever, just change needle every now and then. And they don't need electricity.

Dobar trenutak snimka i kontrast, lepe boje.
Good time recording and contrast, beautiful colors.
Good work, nice tailor demonstrated in the streets and advertising.
Old sewing machine works well.
Have a nice evening and night, all the best with beautiful memories of a visit to Vietnam.

A nice and authentic capture of this tailor at work. I like the way this street shot teaches us something about the world. The man was so concentrated on his job that he didn't even notice you were photographing him. His sewing machine is not of the newest generation, but it adds character to the overall scene. A first rate capture.

Great image of this tailor at work. Just love to see the trousers hanging in the background and the local script in the foreground, all adding to the attractiveness of the image. I like that he is busy at work and not looking directly at you.

Very picturesque view, a charming scene of everyday working activity. I like this street workshop.
Well seen, have a fine day.

A wonderful daily life scene of a person engrossed in work. Tailor in open street - is a common sight in many cities in India also.
Nice colors and details. Very compact frame, complete too - with the inclusion of the signboard.

like the photo a lot. The man sewing in machine is concentrated deeply in his work. You composed it superbly with the board in foreground. A nice one. Tfs.
trevormoffiet (3112) 2013-12-12 2:53
Your journalistic eye certainly shines through in your images. This is well-composed, showing all of the detail that is necessary to complete the story in one image.
rychem (23910) 2013-12-12 6:32
I have seen such an old sewing machine in my childhood, it is a hard job to sit every day at the machine, excellent photo
saxo042 (37578) 2013-12-12 7:29
PaulVDV (22625) 2013-12-12 11:45
Very interesting that we can see people practicing their profession on the sidewalk of the street but I guess that other needs are the basis of this fact, like the lack of a proper workspace or the fact that this might be the only way to have employment or to be seen by potential clients.
In any case, a beautiful testimony of every day work life.
I'm not sure if I have to be surprised or not by what is written on this tailor's hat. Perhaps this is different in the north ...
Best regards, Paul
UlfE (14641) 2013-12-12 12:10

nice and interesting portrait of tailor during the work. Good captured scene and place. Well done photo. I like it.
Have a nice evening.

Hi Gert, A view of daily life in a street of Duong Dong town. He seems enjoying his sewing very much. The sewing machine is an antique for us but for him is for making his bread and butter for daily basis. You have captured his great pleasant moment with great lights and angle. Thank for sharing
tyro (20692) 2013-12-12 16:38
A perfect piece of street photography, showing this tailor at work. And he appears to be doing an excellent job too, even although the sewing machine he is using looks exactly the same as the one my grandmother had sixty years ago.
serp2000 (40306) 2013-12-12 20:29
Good morning, Gert,
I'd like to say he is a local grandchild of Levi Strauss. But US Army cap is more amazing than his productions. Just a crazy world... Good capture of man at work.
Silvio1953 (123367) 2013-12-13 6:16
Ciao Gert, lovely daily life composition with Taylor at work, excellent clarity, splendid light and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
Royaldevon (30145) 2013-12-13 7:22
Oh, what a great daily life shot!
How does this compare with our large clothing retailers!! He's obviously using a treddle machine, very much like that used by grandparents. Presumably, he will measure you and make jeans to fit perfectly, as you wait! That is service! It would cost a large amount of cash to have made-to-measure jeans in the U.K!
A nicely composed shot with plenty of details to show his profession and situation.
Have a great w/e,
bukitgolfb301 (36206) 2013-12-13 12:55
Hi dear Gert
Ya this is your signitured image, Gert! Human stry + one. Very nicely tight framework with so tasteful color touch. His so serious expression and concentration are so heratwarming at all.
All the best and have a good Saturday! Takero from cold Tokyo
abmdsudi (43714) 2013-12-13 20:49
Great observation and interesting how you have brought this tight shot to good life with that needle work where everything looks authentic; the main character himself, the machine, bg and the red sign are attractive items for framing. This lovely daily life shot does give that extra dimension with a nice rustic feel full of charm on its own. I like your in depth thought about this brilliant image, TFS
emka (79737) 2013-12-14 10:08
Hi Gert, The tailors are very skilled in Vietnam. In Hoi An you can order whatever you want and have it ready next day i n your hotel. and what a joy for a street photographer when they are just working in the street. The man looks very concentrated on his work. And he has UDS Army cap - how the times changes. I like this very old sewing machine, still operated by legs. and the Vietnamese language - they have even more diacritic signs than Polish.
batalay (35721) 2013-12-14 14:41
It appears that this tailor not only mends rips, but he makes entire attires. It's a wonderful detailed shot, especially with his shingle advertising is product. I think I've mastered a Vietnamese word, "jean."
macjake (57062) 2013-12-14 14:44
always a pleasure Gert, to see whats new in some far away country in your gallery :)
So what exactly does this sign read do you know?
Its interesting to see that he's wearing a US army hat, and his shirt seems way to large for him.
interesting shot indeed!
have a great weekend
kato (11630) 2013-12-14 18:34
You're capturing well this daily scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle in which a tailor is working intensively using old sewing machine. It's also impressive in a lot of trousers/jeans hung by the pole of work before or after work, and the signboard written in Vietnamese. And, the hat of the U.S. Forces which he is wearing looks like a historical irony.
jhm (139944) 2013-12-15 3:51
In our country is no place for street tailors, the streets are full with cars.
A lot countries make these trousers, but alone countries in Asia
Nice perspective and depth picture
Excellent composition, nice presentation and lovely colours.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,
fabbs99 (16433) 2013-12-15 15:08
Amazing shot of the Tailor.Very well composed photo with excellent vivid colors. TFS.
Glint (6167) 2013-12-16 11:45
I love your photos with a strong human element. I like the 50/50 compo, the man and his work on top and the more graphic element of the sign below. These large images allow us to see lots of detail but it is a shame about having to scroll to see it all.
delpeoples (53167) 2013-12-16 23:48
Great daily life shot, the man is superbly defined with his vintage sewing machine and surrounded by his clothes. The sign is very characteristic and adds to the sense of everyday life.
Fantastic shot, thanks for sharing
seb1lopez (187) 2013-12-19 9:24
I ve always been impressed by the absurdity of this vietnam war, and this pic of course remains it due to the incredible cap of this taylor... anyway, nice street scene due to the fact u included indeed the writing behind him!;) a pleasure to travel at ur sides;)
adores (37505) 2013-12-20 17:35
Seems the one I posted from Senegal was a little more modern but I'm convinced this one still works very well! A great daily scene! I like the composition and his concentration on his work! Impressive how people can work so well on the streets and just with a few objects. A great post!
Miguel82 (24105) 2013-12-21 12:11
An authentic report Gert, that guy looks very concentrated in his work of stitching, an ancient machine and old way of work very instructive document
good framing, fine colors, all the best, warm regards
asajernigan (21294) 2014-08-03 6:04
This is a nice daily life shot. The inclusion of the sign adds interest and information for the scene. The lighting and colors are great as is the photo's sharpness and detail.
jcpix (13686) 2014-11-05 18:15
Great title, and one befitting the imagery without question! I guess you really can get just about anything on the streets...even a freshly sewn pair of jeans. :) A very interesting slice of life, not quite something I would see in my neck of the woods...not right on the street anyway. And just like it was in Russia, I don't understand but one word that's seen here....well, o.k., two words....."jeans" and "U.S. Army!?" I think it was a smart idea to include the text, giving us an idea of locale. Filled with color, rustic textures and interesting details as always...you've provided another delightful facet of daily life from a foreign country. Enjoy the new day. Take care.
*Yes, that was my shadow in the picture I posted today. :)
