Cantho bikes

This is Cantho city after a short rainfall.
Cantho's town center is along the Mekong, dominated with a huge Uncle Ho metal statue (not very photogenic though). While dynamic and urban Saigon or pretty seaside Nha Trang display new or renovated buildings, Cantho or other similar countryside towns are showing decay near to ruins even in the town center, and there is little rebuilding plan it seems. I suspect this could be due to rural migration towards busier towns. Not surprisingly, these little towns are leading a quieter pace than frantic Saigon, there's no need to worry when crossing the streets and bikes are still more widespread than Hondas.
I like grey decayed building with paint peeling off the walls; I was staring at the background when I saw this lady getting on her bike, the clothes she wore were camouflaging against the background patterns. Modern times also passed by in the form of a newer and faster Honda.
I depressed the shutter and went back to my dreams of Vietnam in the thirties, when that building was new. |

A real nice photo. Wet streets always make for a great effect, thats why in many many movies, the directors of photography will do a wet down of the streets before filming a street shot. I also like that the two main caracters are blured, giving a sense of motion to the pic. There are also more people on two wheels than on foot, and that makes for an even more interesting shot. Finaly, the fact that we see Vietnamese writting at many places in the shot shows good sharpness and add to the feel of this picture.
To me, this shot represent the perfect shot for TE. Great note as well.
Another brilliant shot Luko. Really stunning. You have captured such a mood that really comes through. The small details in this shot (like the two red chairs) are so full of stories. A real treasure.
Wonderful, wonderful shot, Luko. This is something I would take, so it's close to heart for me. What I like most is the motion blur here (more on the moto than the bike...motos are a bit faster I guess) as well as the contrast between the human powered vehicle and the motor driven one. Composition wise I would have liked to see just a bit more room on the bottom of the picture, but it's not a major thing. This is quite a nice street shot.
nice movement you captured here luko. and great light too;-)
hi Luko, this is a nice shot, such a typical Vietnamese scene... i really like the composition with those two bikes... i wish the woman was sharper though - it would balance the blurred man i think.. anyway, it is a good work, i like it
There is something very satisfying about this shot, tho it is hard to pinpoint exactly. Most striking is the juxtaposition of the two bikes in the foreground and the motion blur from the motor bike. But the character-rich buildings in the background, the 'after-the-rain' atmosphere and the colourful woman and her Vietnamese hat are also important elements of a great composition. Very TE for sure and a good note too.
