We went on a boat to go through one of the many canals (waterway) of the island. A woman was paddling at the front of the boat and a man was navigating at the back end of the boat. This woman paddler, in this squatting position, paddled the boat for approximately 40 minutes! A hard waay to paddle considering she is perched high up the bow of the boat. She had to bend her back down and up again as she paddles the boat.

hi Andre,
very nice composition..and I guess if you are using those long sticks to move the boat by pushing the ground, being on a higher level might be easier..(like the guys in Venice ? they are always standing up)..
I also like the very natural colors..

I like the close-up capture of this daily life in Mekong Delta. However, I believe you photographed this on the opposite bank of the Tiền River (south bank). When you depart from Mỹ Tho, Cồn Phụng Island is on your right and the photographed location is on your left.
If the above observation is correct, you took this on Tân Thạch commune, Châu Thành District of Bến Tre Province at the area where they make coconut candy.
Please tell me if I am lost. Thanks.

i like how you framed it, it's a very nice shot, with the well placed woman and the feeling to be in the boat.

une photo qui nous donne l'impression d'être le passager
Hi Phuong-Vy and Erdna:
I think there was a miscommunication between Erdna and his guide.
Please use this illustration for your reference, even though the "drawing map" contains an error on basic rule of map, that requires the North direction to be on top. The author of this drawing has South on top, but we still can compare against this military map for the finding.
According to this 'drawing', Erdna departed My Tho from the pink bottom area, at the middle. His boat then followed the direction of the words "MEKONG RIVER", and landed the green zone above the "M" and processed further South where the candy makers are. Among the 4 islands between the Mekong River, CỒN PHỤNG (Phoenix Island) is the little one at upper right, to the left of the word "MEKONG". Looking closer to this drawing or to the military map, we will not see any canal on CỒN PHỤNG island. As a result, the exact location of the photo is Tân Thạch commune, Châu Thành District of Ben Tre Province, not the Phoenix Island (Cồn Phụng) as stated by photographer.
Whatever the location name is, this is an informative capture.
Regards.
In Agust 2005 I was on the same boat visiting a candies factory in the Mekong, as you. And I'm remember how quite was this kind of locomotion.
Nice shot,
Cheers, Jean-Claude
