Delta life.., a photo from An Giang, Mekong River Delta

Photographer's Note

This was taken on a slightly cloudy day during my usual early morning photo routine on one of the many small canals which form a huge network of waterways surrounding Chau Doc river town in the vibrant Mekong Delta. Set among lush landscape of sprawling rice fields and flat wetlands, the Mekong river and its branches shape life in this region, people live, shop, sell and eat from and in their boats, canoes and homes on the water. It is along the smaller canals that most of the rural population lives since the soil is fertile and rich with abundance of fresh water.

This image is a glimpse of traditional way of rural life associated with river acitvity in the delta which has not changed for generations probably, and the comfort we are used to is not to be seen here. This is certainly different but it's a wonderful slice of local flavour to a different way of life and for the Vietnamese, Mekong Delta remains a way of life -the heartbeat of the land and its people.

Hello Abmdsudi,
This is a fine composition and not quite the usual picture from the delta. The green water plants are shown on a diagonal, which is strengthened by the wooden construction and the boat is well placed and has created another, opposing diagonal. It is a fairly plain but attractive picture of daily life on the Mekong.

This is a wonderful view of river. It has all the elements associated with the boat. Superb character to the greens, wonderful details, and of course the boat. Excellent point of view with the boat stretching be the main theme.

You're capturing well this daily life scene of Vietnam by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see the canal that the green plant is floating and the woman who is collecting grass into the boat from the canal. And, the shadow projected to the canal gives an additional good effect.

I heard a lot about those river and delta people. Human beings are so adaptable and creative. One has to make a living and we find ways to make it so. I only saw to type of water lilies when I live in New Orleans, I think they only grow in warmer climate. Nice capture of this delta person with good lighting and dof with nice details. I like your idea to omit the horizon line and cloudy sky and to put stress completely on the life on the water.The outcome appeals to me.You have excellent sense of situation how to present us the daily-life on the water.
You composed also the image very well.Especially captivating look these plants drifting on the water and smooth reflections on the water surface.Morover you capture perfectly the colors.They´re well-saturated,especially green shades are so vivid and make the scene so nice.

a good scene of the daily life in the delta, perfectly caught early in the morning, with a soft light and a magnificent effect of chiaroscuro in foreground.
The green one of the plants on the water and on the canoe they add a good chromatic power to the composition, and the reflections on the water increase its aesthetic level.
It's a beautiful work, skillfully executed.

this is a beautiful, elegant and artistic composition that makes excellent use of the the theme, ambiance and lighting. The boat is excellently placed in the frame and directs our glance to the elements that surround it. The longer we observe the picture the richer it becomes as we constantly discover details. I love the perspective, the mysterious boatwoman peacefully absorbed in her work, the rich deep tones of the water and the way the other colours stand out against it. A magnified image with the lifestyle in the delta, perfect touch to the composition the presence of this man in his canoe, which seems to collect plants, which float on the water.
I really like this degradee water color, from lightest to darkest in the foreground, the green of the plants that seem to float in the river, are a perfect touch.

I have read and study about the delta since I was young, in geography and his history class. I have my curiosity of the place as it is the end of the Mekong before it goes into the ocean. This is a combination of wonderful daily life image as the woman is collecting vegetable from the bank of the river. I love the contast of the bright green of the vegetation and the dark inky river. Really wonderful shot full of atmosphere and mood of the orient.

A very interesting image by the way you composed. The light has been handled with subtlety & the exposure well achieved. The boat is well framed in a diagonal from the corner of the frame. It seems she's gathering the water plants which grow here aplenty. The lush green & the dark water contrasts well. Good work!
