Photographer's Note
Travels on the Silk Road:
(See also workshop version!) Traditionally, travellers had to pass through poor mountaneous regions, through untamed deserts and steppes to reach from time to time one of the fabulously rich stopover sites. Samarqand qualified for centuries as such a site. The pic shows the interiour of the Tillya Kari mosque built in 1660 AD. It is a part of the medrassa of the same name. The famous Registan center of higher learning is composed of three medressas, Tillya Kari is one of them.
The pic reveals the art of placing a circular cupola on a square building frame by slipping in succesive rings of octagonal and 16-gonal structure. The technique was first developed in early Byzantine times by the Greeks but it became a part of Islamic architecture early on.
The shot was taken by hand but on support without flash, the slide scanned, the resulting pic staightened and saturated and sharpened.
I hope it worked.

Salom Dietrich Beg,
ein Rausch in Gold, Blau und Rot. Trotz der Unschärfen eine hervorragende Innenaufnahme.
Gute Komposition.

A bientôt,
Yannick

Hallo Dietrich!
