Photographer's Note

Portraiture is arguably one of the most challenging branches of people photography and in many cases, being a stranger in a foreign land and not naturally part of the environment and having a camera infront of my face makes me stand out of the crowd. Here in Khiva cold winter afternoon, frequently time and the light were not on my side in unfamiliar or trying conditions.

In a busy market place for my portrait shots, I normally would try to focus on people in their natural personality that is real and unique, spontaneous and artistic in order to record the true spirit represented in a photo that is both captivating and timeless. Life is full of moments that can become precious gems, the moments that will be cherished for years to come and I try to make memories that last a lifetime.

This lady with her shiny gold plated teeth caught my attention amongst the hectic crowd. Gold seems to be a sign of beauty and a measure of wealth may be? But I simply loved her sensational looks, tall, proud and high cheekbones as she continuously made my day and actually transformed the market scene to life. This was a quick burst of image caught using 300mm long lens before she dissappeared in cold thin air.

She has defintely brought a golden smile to the face of winter....
