Photographer’s Note
During a free weekend I spent some time in the mountains around Lake Charvak with some friends (and one very special FRIEND - you know who you are “HB”).
Charvak is actually a reservoir of about 20 square kilometres, holding the drinking water for the Tashkent region. I drove to our rented house on Saturday morning and spent the weekend lazing around in the sun. We took a short walk along the shore of the lake where we found this charming country house, thinking it was unoccupied we rested in the shade of the lakeside trees. A dog began barking which soon made the resident aware of our presence; an elderly Uzbek lady came to see what we were doing. Once we had introduced ourselves she made us feel welcome, calming the dog and offering us the use of her garden as shelter from the sun and even the use of her shoreline for swimming. Although the house does have charm it was completely eclipsed by the warm welcome show to us by its owner.
