Picture taken of the base of the Akhal-Tekke Horse fountain in the centre of the "10 Years of Independence" park in Ashgabat looking towards a row of new appartment buildings.
The french company Bouygues completed the fountain and the surrounding park in 2001. In Turkmenistan Bouygues is responsible for prestigious architecture (e.g. the presidential palace, the former president's mausoleum and the Arch of Neutrality) whereas Turkish companies tend to get contracts for appartment buildings, roads and so on.
The picture was taken in April 2009. Less than 8 years after completion a closer look at the structure allows for doubt regarding the presidential quote that: "Whatever is built in Turkmenistan today, like the pyramids, is built for eternity!"
The fountain was built in 2001, commemorating the celebration of Turkmenistan's tenth anniversary of independence. And the picture was taken in April 2009 - some eight years after this prestious park was finished.
