Photographer's Note

This picture gives a rare glance into the national library of Turkmenistan. Library in fact would be a word not appropriate for this building which is among the poshest I've ever seen. The rooms have a height of up to 7 metres, dark wood, brass, deep carpets, gigantic pictures on the walls, romanesque columns and large lions at the entrance, comfortable seats - hundreds of them - and dozens of librarians to help you finding a book.
This, after all, isn't that difficult, because the librabry is particularly heavy on one book only - the Ruhnama, the book, the former president wrote (see yesterday's entry).
Pictured here: the main reading room with a copy of the Ruhnama on every shelf and holograms of the book stamped into the windows separating different reading areas.

Technical: I know the picture has noise - a lot in fact. But I had to use ISO 800 to be able to take the picture - and what's more, I had to be rather quick. The noise is therefore in my eyes no damage but integral part of the scene captured.
