Photographer’s Note

Last week was the Buffalo Festival at Chonburi. It is one of my favorite festivals. The rice farmers come in from the provinces with their beloved water buffaloes to compete in the various classes and also to hold the thrilling and comical Buffalo races (most of the riders get thrown).The competition is fierce and the farmers are keen judges of a good buffalo. Actually, for the first year, I didn't go, because my Canon is in repair (my fault not Canon's) and I have lost the battery charger of the Nikon and have to wait two weeks for another. So this is a shot from last year (with the Nikon) The buffalos are waiting in the shade to be lead to the show ring and their anxious keeper squats in the sun,watching over them. The water buffalo, is the main domestic animal in South East Asian, they are much prized and loved by their owners. They have been the loyal friend of the rice farmer for centuries.

Hello Kevin,
An excellent daily life shot. I like the point of view and the poses of the two animals. The farmer in his colourful clothes is well positioned and adds atmosphere. Good natural colours and superb clarity.

What a beest there with those enornmous horns, kevin. I was just in sulawesi where buffalos are highly prized and priced. A buff with these horns could sell for around $5000.
Nice POV as we squat with the keeper. (Hope you get your camera back soon)

i am a buffaloes boy when i was since Laos but it is long time ago not sure that i still can ride it easy. did you see which one won this festival? nice picture of daily life TFS

Interesting to see the red head wear and shorts in front of the buffalo, and luckily he is not in Spain!

Your low angle is showing a good view of the front as if we were standing there too. Nice shot. tfs

An amazingly expressive shot Kevin,
Great colour and sharpness. Having the boy slap bang in the front goes against a lot of rules but works perfectly.

Very nice picture with the big horns of the buffalos, the buffalo boy make a good pause, the point of view and the poses of the two buffalos is excellent
Quality and colour are pleasant for look it.

Nice point of view - it's interesting to see life from teh perspective of this buffalo man.
