Photographer’s Note

In Loei, the village of Dan Sai, in the mountains on the border with Laos, the festival of Pi Ta Khon, takes place every year, before the monsoon. The spirits are called up and enter into the bodies of the dancers, who dance through the village for a night and a day. As well as the famous masked dancers they are also mud dancers; men who cover themselves with mud as a sign of fertility (mud being water and soil mixed) and dance to call on the monsoon rains to come. This man is leading one of these mud men groups

Very interesting, a totally different world. These people are much more nearer to nature than we in the "western" hemispere".

Very beautiful close-up of this dancer. It's clear that he's covered with mud. How does a spectator of these dances go home afterwards ? Full of mud ? :)

nice portrait but i think you should avoid that shadow on his face and maybe you need more blur back ground
