Photographer’s Note
This is a young actor in the Chinese Gnu theatre. These traditional plays about the doings of the gods and performed before Taoist temples on certain auspicious occasions. They are performed primarily to pay honor to the Gods. This actor was waiting in the dark for his time to go on. The singing of the Mandarin songs is done by elderly classical singers behind the scene, while younger actors play the role and mime on stage. This very ancient art form still exists but it is slowly dying out, as younger people tend not to be so interested.

Hello Kevin, It seems to be the way the world over, the young are not so interested in the old ways, a shame.
Nice sharp & interesting portrait, with beautiful colour & light.

Hi Kevin,
Do I see 40D ? This must be quite new isn't it ? However the EXIF still tells Sony ;-)
anyway what I like on this image is that the face emerges from surrounding darkness with just enough light to get good highlights and contrasting colors against it.
Have a nice day JY

Hello kevin. Theatre, dance dramas, masks, make-up. An important topic. The Portrait of this actor is skillfully realized. Impressively, worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hello Kevin
A beautiful portrait my friend! He has an enigmatic look, beautiful features and you made good use of the flash allowing to see the details. An adequate framing and lovely color tones.

Bonjour, mon ami Kevin,
Quand on était petits, on voulait (presque) tous être acteurs. Mais au fait, acteur, c'est un métier ?
Excellente image qui permet de rendre leurs lettres de noblesse au théâtre antique du pays.
Excellent rendu général.
Amitiés.

Hi Kevin
That is a nice portrait of the actor..... His face stands out strong on the dark BG, and his make up is attractive too... The flash didn t damage the picture, but I see 1/50s... that made it a bit soft in focus but no big deal there...
Best regards
Laurent

What's a face. Nice shot. It looks dynamic with her eyes looking straight to the camera. A strong, yet seems relax facial expression. Well done Kevin. Sothy

Very nice control of flash here to make another distinctive portrait. Isn't that evaluative function on canons effective!
