| Most tourists don't get past extravagance of the the Emerald Buddha in Wat Pho Temple when visit Bangkok, but there is actually much more to see than the one colossal statue. The Temple Wat Pho is much older than the city of Bangkok itself. It was founded in the 17th century, making it the oldest temple in Bangkok. The temple was a center of learning, Thailand's first university. There is 95 „chedis“, decorated with ceramic tiles and many others nice details like this beautiful stone bench and bowl on my picture. Chedi is sometimes translated as stupa or even pagoda. Chedis are generally bell-shaped tower which usually contain a relic of the Buddha, but may also be built to contain the ashes of a king or important monk. |
