We were at Bangkok's Wat Phra Kaeo just after the Thai New Year, Songkran (Buddhist year 2550). There were many people there paying tribute, or making merit. One way to do this is by adorning images of the Buddha with beautiful gold leaf.
It was a miserably hot day, and the hordes of package tourists made the jam-packed Wat Phra Kaeo a little to much to bear... but like everywhere in Thai is was great to see that all their Wats and even national monuments and ruins are still actively used by people in their daily life, not dry museum pieces by any means. |
