Whilst in Bangkok for three days, I took a "long-tail" water taxi to the Grand Palace, but on our way we were taken up a side river channel which gave me an opportunity to see another side to this fantastic city. We passed many old, poor-class houses which were in total contrast to the high-rise office blocks and 5 star hotels within Bangkok, but what was evident amongst the people I saw along the way, was that they still showed a great amount of pride in what they had and what they did.
This particular "boat lady" was waiting her turn to approach one of the tourist-filled boats, but she had such a fantastic spirit about her, and such a joyous smile that I was entranced by it. I had to zoom in on her from quite a distance, to be able to capture her look, as she waited in the shadow of a very dirty and filth covered shack. We can learn so much from these very humble people who earn a small living from what they make by selling souveniers to tourists. Such simple joy from such humble people. |
