It was almost 6:00 pm. I spotted these three kids in the ruins of the temple in Ayutthaya. I could have approached them and asked if they could pose for me. I didn't. I wanted to capture their raw expressions. I wanted to portray their pure emotions. With my 70-200 lens, I kept on clicking and clicking. I had so many "good" shot of the three of them. When they eventually noticed me, they got conscious and their looks betrayed their spontaneity. I stopped.
The evening light that struck the girl on the left was magical! I had this converted to BW because their shirts are so colorful it distract the sparkles in their eyes.

Hi manny! Impressive shot! You are showing us serious photography here. The boys face is very well lit what makes this image extraordinary.
All the best!

Hi Manny. A lovely effect indeed created by the light striking the girl at the right - while the two kids at the left are still sufficiently visible to greatly enhance the mood and the composition. Great idea with the b&w, the tones really look wonderful.

And you catched their expressions very very well! Briliant work! i like the lighting a lot and the sepia tones!

Certainly magical light here, so fortuitous, it could almost have been the result of PP. Mmm, I think I'll have to splash out on a longer lens soon. nice work.

Very nice portait. As you said, these 3 kids are naturous and spontaneous till they did not notice you.
Though, I follow what Simon said about your pp. I think that this is too much here and the result is that we can see this processing too strong.

seems like a painting Manuel

I like the subjects

i like the texture of the concrete behind and the two children in the shadows-still a lot of detail here.I expect the lighting effects look better in b+w

Such a wonderful shot Manuel,
it is a wonderful moment really, i love this image!
I am glad you converted to B&W because we would probably loose that magical light on the girl..
(P.s: There is something that i really want to know Manuel,, Somehow when you convert those images to b&w, it doesnt work...
(well at least i know it doesnt work for my
ones. something is not right, i can see that and its not really a bw image,
am i really doing something wrong here, or just the way it is i wonder? :-)
Regards and best wishes!

Fine work, Manuel!
Compo with three kids where the one on the right is separated by the light cast on her and full frontal.
Beautiful face expression and very good tonal range of your b/w!
olopez (4959) 2005-03-28 16:34
Everything is perfect is this picture Manuel, mainly the light.
This must be the last, the girl on the left is looking at the camera.
Stroke of genius.

Amazing picture! Amazing post-pro work! Is there a chance we could see the color version too as a WS to this maybe?
ChrisJ (109360) 2005-03-29 3:29
A superb tonal range in this outstanding b&w portrait. Perfect sharpness around the eyes of the main subject. I like the subtle sparkle in the eye of the boy in the shadow on the left. Excellent & first rate work!

Hi Manny! I have to agree the light on the girl's face is wonderful! All their expressions are very natural! It's amazing you have been able to capture images like this and play around with the lighting. Very very nice! rgds.
ishai (4097) 2005-04-05 4:11
Another very good one Manuel
The effect you captured here is very good
Its amazing to see the 2 children looking at 2 different directions
The one on the left straight at you in such purity and the other on the right with the light looking up (not interested)
Very impressive and good capture
