in the former Thai capital of Ayutthaya one can find a countless number of ruined temples, many of them adorned with golden Buddha statues. This particular one is from Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon.
The easiest way to get around is by renting a Tuk Tuk for the day. One can also rent bycicles or ride elephants, but this is not recommended as the animals are not to well treated.

What an odd sight, Daniel - I assume the Buddha was not always meant to occupy this particular position, but it seems to be in pretty good shape. Do you know what caused it to fall?
I really like how you've chosen to shoot this, from behind the bricks - it really does create the impression of a Buddha at rest, the head obscured partly by a pillow. Good brightness and range of color here as well. Thanks!

Hi Daniel, I do not remeber this Buddha. It is rather unusual, so white and just sleeping, not reclining like in other statues. Was it fallen down? Funny, it looks like covered by a sheet. Interesting contrast with the dark bricks and green. Warm regards

I think the composition is excellent with a strong contrast between the white Buddha statue, the brilliant green branches on the background and the dark bricks on the foreground.
But the wall isn't sharp.
Best regards, Paul

SAlut Danniel ,
Très belle capture de ce Budha couché . LA statue blanche ressort formidablement entre le vert tendre de la végétation , et les escaliers floutés et sombres du premier plan .

What an outstanding capture. Your point of view is ideal with the Buddha in recline on the rock. Color and light management are also excellent. Well composed and captured. Bravo Daniel! I will add this to my favorites as it so well done.

Excellent travel photo! Interesting contrast between the three layers: the ruined wall, the Buddha and the green foliage in the background. I also like the fact that part of the statue's face is obscured which adds a sense of mystery.

Ciao e buona giornata

The depth in this photo is superb thanks to the broken wall in the foreground, and of course the star of the show is the statue itself, it looks quite colossal in size, and beautifully positioned. I love the calm and serene look on the statues face, which seems to be the overriding theme when I see these great graceful monuments. This is a real stand out oNe though, beautifully done.
All the best

Nice composition showing the Buddha "hiding" behind teh steps. Excellent focus and light management. TFS

The crop is impressive placing the eye at the third which so spot on. This hugh reclining Buddha lays perched on a frame nicely and the rich colours radiate giving life to the image with straight shooting angle and stand out strikingly between the dark fg and green backdrop. Excellent still life image with superb clarity and enough depth. Beautifully taken, Congrats

We get a fantastic contrast image between Buddha statue and dark blurred foreground.
A excellent photowork Daniël.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

Salut cher Daniel
The tight frame and close up on the Buddha's face really works well here. Beautiful strong colours and good depth of field. I am sure that there are many ruins like this, but I have not seen any, so thank you for sharing this unique sight with us.
Warmest wishes, bonne dimanche

A very interesting and different look at Buddha, I really like how you've put this together. The depth of field, with the out of focus foreground, brings out the real subject of the image and creates a bit of intrigue. It almost feels like it could be a macro shot of a miniature display!? The exposure is splendid, again it helps enhance the main point of focus. Strong detail and color with great composition, very well done!

Hello Daniel - When we visited Ayutthaya it was such a whistle stop tour we hardly had time to see anything. I don't remember seeing this reclining Buddha. You have captured it from such an interesting angle with the ruins in the FG and greenery behind. I have a love-hate relationship with Thailand but images like this call me back! Warm regards Rosemary

I haven't been in this Wat this last time, but you captured the Buddha in an original way, using the wall in foreground. The light and the white colour makes it stand out! Good focus also! I like the idea!

I like the way you have composed this and compressed the perspective using your zoom to give this image an abstract layered quality that creates a sense of depth. Well exposed too given that bright Buddha and good control of DOF.

C'est un très joli point de vue que tu nous as trouvé ici.
Le contraste est magnifique.
