Photographer's Note
The Shan tribe live mostly in the mountains of Eastern Burma, but they also inhabit the Thai province of Mae Hong Son, a remote and mountainous province. They have a rich culture of their own. One of their main festivals is Boi Son Long, when boys ages from 10 to 14 are carried on the shoulders of their fathers, to the temple for ordination as Buddhist novices. First their heads are shaved in readiness, then they are dress is gorgeous clothing and their faces painted. Boys offered in this way are known as glass or crystal kids. This ceremony is preceded by three days of celebration, when they are carried from house to house and given gifts of sweets and money. In return they chant a suta of blessing on the household. They will live in the temple for 21 days, studying Buddhism and meditation. They do this as a merit making act, to thank their parents for their care in bringing them up. It also celebrates the parents love for and pride in their sons. Sadly, there is no similar ceremony for girls.

Hi Kevin,
It is interesting note about these young boys and beautiful photo. They have gorgeous costumes and their heads are decorated with flowers. I didn't know that boys like this kind of decoration. I thought that it is a girls' world. But through photography we learn about other people culture.
The photo has nice composition, great colors, light and sharpness.
Tfs and best regards,
Zbigniew

Nice photo and colours, but it looks to me as if it has had a little too much HDR or lightening of the shadows which make it look a bit flat.
