Photographer’s Note

The view from the Big Buddha on Ko Samui. I went back here in 2004, but couldn't find the same vantage point again. Taken near low tide, when the fringing coral reef is exposed.

Ko Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand.

Rather a sad tale, I image the place has been developed beyond reconition. Be interesting to follow this up with a shot from last year, as close as you could get to it.

Very good view on this coral lagoon, the light is good and also the framing that shows a lot and place well the two different sea configurations.

Hi Chris...i went in Big Buddha in the 1997 and the colors of the sea was changed. too many boats, too many bungalows, too many tourists. and that problem in all Samui.
i think that when in so small island governement opened an internation airport, that is the dead of the island.
too many organized travelles, too many guesthouses, hotels, restaurant, tuk tuk, pollution...too many fishermen, too less fish, too less reef, too less relax.
i saw the same thing in Roatana (Honduras) and Tioman (Malaysia).

anyway, a good shot with all the colors!

Three nice colors that are well represented here. I like this point of view that makes me feel like we are on the portche of one of these house. The view is great and the color of the water makes me want to jump in it.

A superb capture rendered with good colour and clarity. I like your POV here, with just the right amount of foreground. The red roof really enhances and contrasts and balances the water. Quite remarkable quality for a scanned photo of such vintage. Great work, Chris.

Wow - this blue is so inviting! The contrast with the red roofed buildings and the amazing blue of the sea works very well. I like the positioning of the horizon line too, since it gives this shot a very well balanced look. Well done!

Quite a simple compo but a beautiful colorful ensemble in this photo, Chris. These coastal landscapes of Thailand are always worth a photo, and the sunlight certainly helped here to accentuate all the available details.

Wonderful colors here, what a beautiful place! Maybe moving a few meters to the right would have enhanced the composition. I think the plants are a little too much in the way. Simon

with some layers blue,green in the sea and then in the sky and here the rooves in a great contrast with red and orange and the tree in yellowish are grea when I look at the view,very well worked and composed,beautiful sky,too,nicely done,Chris!
