Photographer's Note

Troubles in Thailand continue and tourist numbers fall as bad press deters people for visiting. The Land of Smiles has a recent history of political shenanigans with changes in government being brought about regularly. Wat Plai Laem is one of the most colourful temples on Koh Samui. It is a strange mix of "Disneyland", incredible and expensive kitsch and a place of worship. The temple has many strange statues and features an 18-armed Kuan Hin statue set in the middle of a lake. Her name translates as “The one who hears the cries of the world”. She has many arms so she can help multitudes of people. She is cloaked in a long white robe symbolizing purity and the vase that she holds represents the pouring of compassion into the world
