I took this picture back in Jan 2008 on my vacation to Phuket Thailand. In Phuket Thailand there are many elephant rides. This is one of it where it is close by to Wat Chalong.
For each ride 30 minutes one has to pay 800 Bahts. Yes. It is a terrible ride. Trust me! The problem is the workers only get 3000 - 4000 Baht a month! Yes that is less than USD100 a month! They have to sent their children to school and cover the living expenses of the entire family.
If you have seen the movie the "Elephant Man" I think besides their appearance they may very well be leading a difficult life like th elephant man do. |
