Low tide at the north side of Phi Phi Don island, the water is knee depth for some kilometers into open water, it takes 20 minutes of wading through very warm water before it became swimmable. There are few longtail boats on this side, the deeper south bay is where most of them dock. I considered erasing the rope that ties the boat at right because it looks like a scratch in the negative. This island was damaged by the 2004 tsunami, this photo was taken 1 month before the tragedy.

Very like the calm water of this paradise...Great colors and detail, absolutely worthy of portraying this wonderful place. The background is very nice, it helps to contrast the boats...

The green part in the center is well isolated from other colors and is looking good. The water at deep is blue at horizon and changes colors at beach is also very great.
Thanks for sharing this well composed shot.

Amazing colors and composition again. How do you get that beautiful colors??? The water seems really shallow. Thank God you did not erase the rope..:)) Very sharp as always and the long tales are adding an another taste to the atmosphere here.
Well done and thanks for sharing...

A marvellous, colourful and exotic shot. The neck of land is unique, and captivates the eye with its rocky towering cliffs covered with rich vegetation. The boats lie in peaceful slumber. I also like the varying hues as the water changes colour with teh sandy bottom beneath. A most successful shot.
SamB (1948) 2005-12-26 13:51
Great composition, the boats are perfectly placed. The gradation from orange to green to distant blue in the water is great, and really adds a feeling of depth to the image. Nice note as well.

Bu güzelliğin bir ay sonra uğradığı felaketi düşününce insan çok üzülüyor.Gerçekten çok güzel bir yer.İyiki bir ay sonra gitmemişsin.

Excellent balance in the scene Tan. The two boats on the left fill the bottom third of the scene. Nicely placed in the frame. The island of course is the counterbalance of the frame. It looks in credible from this distance. A very fine scene Tan. Excellent work!

Hi Tan. I hope you had a great Christmas. The image and scan quality are impeccable. For this environment a polarizer is exactly what you want. Oh if those poor people had some warning of what was to come. tfs Tan!

The blue sky created a good curtain to this crystal crisp image. The placement of the boats are cool.
Yeah, it's been a year since the Tsunami tradegy. Many live lost and many still mourn for their beloved one.

I'd say you're a lucky man! I was there in 1997 & also in 1995. Superb color, lighting, contrast, & sharpness. The rope would only bother me if it terminated in an empty space with no boat! Good work!
rosaline (0) 2005-12-27 4:27
Great shot, wonderful summery colours and a good composition with the boats well placed off center. The colour of the water is great too and contrasts nicely with the sky and the landscape. Good work and have a great 2006

les couleurs de l'eau sont magiques et j'aime beaucoup la forme de ces montagnes boisées.

Gorgeous shot! The colour of the water is amazing, and the composition is great too, with the boats leading in to the rock formations and forests in the background. Beautiful!

Great colors for a portrait of paradise!
I have been there only for a few hours, and there were lots of people, so I couldn't enjoy completely this beauty. Thank you for showing it so well!
cherryripe (21033) 2005-12-28 11:32
This warms me up as it's cold and snowing outside. Looks like a very pretty place. Interesting contrasts between the boats two-toned water and incredible greenery on the land.
Thanks for sharing.

I guess this is the northern beach in the tourist village on Koh Phi Phi Don. I visited the place in July 2005 and after the tragedy the place looks terrible. This beach was damaged the most considerably. All the palmtrees on the shore are top-cut or simply disappeared, all the buildings (especially hotels) nearby, apart from those located on the hill, are non-existent, everywhere on the ground you can find parts of the previously fourishing village. So sad...
This photo is very worthy now as this beach will probably never look the same again. You have got nice colours and lovely light here. Greetings

What a fascinating view. Low PoV gives great perspective and depth. Nice colours too. Very well done!
Happy New Year!
AmiBe (6042) 2006-01-01 17:50
it looks very peaceful and it's like a paradise...
It's hard to imagine this place with a 10m high wave.
Well composed, very balanced.

Great one Tan,
I am also on my way to Thailand and Cambodia ( Angkor only ) during the Holiday. I like this one because it has a " vacation dream " look.
But the news about Yemen are not to good. They constantly kidnapp tourists. I also wish to visit Yemen, but I think the security there is a problem. So think twice before deciding.
Happy new Year - Izzet

Hello Tan. Wonderfully strong colours here and a good contrast between the light water and deep sky. I love the details in the small boats.

Very good definition, color and contrast. I like the two color sea and that island in the horizon. Another great shot.
banyanman (7789) 2007-07-21 8:42
What a beautiful photograph. Tan. Wonderful light and perfectly composed, and all the colours that we associate with Phi Phi. The rope doesn't bother me at all. The fact that it fades away towards the back of the boat and is rippled under the water shows that it can't be a scratch on your neg. Cheers . . . David
