A re-post. This is the original, without post processing , as suggested by the critiques.
Across Isarn, the ethnically Laotian, South East of Thailand, before the monsoon comes ,a number of wild and ancient festivals take place. They are intended to call for the life giving rains to come. The are pre-Buddhist in origin and come from Hindu fertility festivals.Here In Roi Et they have a rocket festival , where different villages make and fire enormous rockets into the sky, in competition. This man demonstrates a number of features of these bawdy festivals, men wearing womens cloths, men wearing false penises and people covering themselves in mud. All of these are a part of the tradition for these festivals.A lot of drinking and merry making takes place as well and, after the festivals, the rains always do come.

Wow, you are quite active now a days, Kevin! I agree that this original one is better. Another interesting (and funny) reportage photo from this festival. It seems that everyone is having a great time here. I like your approach to the fertility man, but the guys laughing in the background also contribute for the humor of the scene.
