[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Monsoon season is coming again and, at the end of this month the traditional fertility festivals will take place. These are ancient festivals calling for the rain to bring fertility back to the land. In Rio Et Province, in the North East, some of the farmers, paint their bodies black, using burnt coconut shell, and parade about the streets. There are lots of wild festivities to awaken the rains and bring on the monsoon again. The colour black is associated with fertility in several ancient cultures. But it is difficult to find the origin of this custom. This picture is from last year’s festival.

Interesting subject, nice colours, good photo.
Something is feels wrong to me, though. I cannot quite understand it, it is perhaps the frame which cut the man on the left. Or maybe a slight unsharpness.
Or maybe my eyes are misleading me :)
Thanks for sharing

Strange custom well recorded, Kevin. A well framed shot, with good timing as to the surrounding expressions ;o)
Cheers,
Francis

Hello Kevin,
Excellent opposition between the man in black and the others in colors. This parade seems to be very interesting.

Amazing capture, Kevin. In the thumnails I thought he was a statue, then he reminded me those still men (statue men?...I don't know the right word) that are in touristic urban areas, but only after your note, I fully understood what this was. He's gorgeous, with the skin shinning and those lips and eyes standing out from all the dark. What makes this so good and enjoyable, is the inclusion of the triple reaction at left. The adult is just amused with the situation, but the kids seem so surprised as me. Excellent interesting post for TE.

Hello Kevin
Interesting scene with the man painted in black in order to awaken the rains.(in Goa, when the rain is late some people walk around with big stones on their head). The man and two boys on the left side seem to be amused, maybe because of you :)
Cheers
Marilyn
