Photographer's Note

the Mekong river, my endless source of inspiration (continued)

---

This is another shot from the Mekong near Chiang Khan, a quiet border town in Northern Isaan. The picture shows a typical fish farm. Across the river is Laos.

---

The Mekong River is one of the world’s major rivers. It is the 12th-longest river in the world, and 7th longest in Asia. Its estimated length is 4,350 km, and it drains an area of 795,000 km2. From the Tibetan Plateau it runs through China's Yunnan province, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Although extreme seasonal variations in flow and the presence of rapids and waterfalls have made navigation extremely difficult, the Mekong is the main source of life for millions of people in South-Asia.

---

This picture was taken in Chiang Khan, a sleepy riverside town, a couple of hours to the north of Loei. It is a very enjoyable place to hang around for a couple of days, go for walk along the river and watch the sun go down.
