Photographer's Note

this is a scene from a temple in the city of Lamphun, a short hours drive south of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.
While people where worshipping, this lady was clearing out burnt down incence sticks and papers from the temples worshipping places.

Very nice documentation of the daily life and belief of people. I like the backlighting capture the smoke rising. Good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Hello Daniel,
This was clearly not an easy light for taking pictures but you have handled it quite well. The atmosphere created by the burning incense sticks is well captured as the smoke covers a large part of the view. The woman looks beautifully dressed, even for her cleaning job. I only wish the black plastic bag would have been hidden behind her.

As Gert said, nice job in difficult light. The effect of this direct lighting on the smoke is particularly nice, I think, letting it stand out against the shadowed BG. the light gives a nice glow to other elements of the shot as well, especially the paper in her hand and the mask over her nose and mouth. Very interesting scene of daily life here, thanks!

Hi Daniel,
This is a really cool shot of a scene that we would never normally see, while most of the time if we see an image of one of these beautiful temples, it's of the incense and the worshippers, never of the required day ton day to work to keep them looking so ell, so this is a really fine documentary shot. Really nicely done, and as mentioned, the rising smoke in the background sets a beautifully tone to the whole capture. Really nicely done, thanks for sharing.

I don't blame the lady for wearing a mask, that incense really doesn't agree with my nose! But I love the effect of their smoke in the photo. The flames on the right are a beautiful effect and the costume that the lady is wearing is also a very attractive element. Great colours, depth and a great title. Well done!
