Sending out a SMS... Photo

Photographer’s Note

In the night market of Chiang Mai, every night thousands of tourists come to buy souvenirs, handicrafts, or just to take an evening stroll after the heat of the day. I normally avoid this type of places, but there are some nice restaurants too in the area! And on the way I saw this girl in her small shop deeply involved in sending some SMS... I shot her once... no good (very dark picture due to low light), shot twice, same result.. only at the third or fourth attempt I managed a reasonable exposure... and she never even winked, so absorbed in her typing...
Handheld, no flash.

A Chiang Mai, il y a un marché ou se rassemblent des milliers de touristes tous les soirs.pour acheter des souvenirs, de l'artisanat ou autres (deux a trois fois le prix normal)le fameux 'Night Market'... D'habitude, j'évite ce genre d'endroits, mais dans le quartier il y a de bons restaurants... Au passage j'ai remarqué cette jeune fille dans son magasin, qui était si absorbée dans son envoi de SMS, qu'elle n'a même pas sourcillé pendant les plusieurs minutes que j'ai mis a ajuster l'exposition... ça a duré un bon moment, puisque c'était très sombre et que je n'avais pas le compas dans l'œil!
Sans flash ni trépied.

un stand bien fourni et une vendeuse qui a compris que tu n'était pas un acheteur potentiel :)) Bien que la lumière était assez faible, les détails sont bien visibles grâce à l'expo...

Je connais ce marché nocturne pour l'avoir déja visité. Bien sur c'est rempli de touristes mais l'ambiance y est bon enfant. La vendeuse est bien occupée avec son portable.

tu aurais pu sans problème monter a 800 voir 1600 iso , on découvre a la fois la petite boutique avec le parfait attirail pour touriste et une jeune vendeuse complètement absorbée par son joujou

Et oui l'atmosphere des reperes a touristes en bien des endroits d'Asie maintenant. Dans tout son bric a brac pour attirer le chaland elle s'evade dans ailleurs. Belles couleurs dans cette semi obscurite.

I remember these markets very wel....which Rolex do you want sir, or perhaps a Breitling, IWC, we have them all, very cheap, very good...nono, don't walk away, special price for you.........pffffffffffffffffffffffffffff, it was nice but only once in a lifetime ;-)

Sharpness lies on the poster in front, but i have no problems with that, the girl on the cell phone is dominant place inside the frame and works very well in telling this story of you. The rest of her shop is also pretty colourful, all kind of nice details...very nice.

C'est effectivement un lieu incontournable de Chiang Mai, et le coté touriste y côtoie aussi un coté purement Thaï.
Je trouve que pour ses conditions de prise le résultat de cette photo est tout à fait satisfaisant.

Nous voici dans les souks , enfin , version Thailandaise ... Tout ce bric a brac coloré est bien agrémenté par la présence de cette jeune personne . C'est vivant et exotique à souhait , mais l'endroit semble rechercher cette apparence , si je te lis bien ....

Très couleurs locales cette photo, y'a pas à dire !!! Chapeau pour la prise de vue quand on lit ta note. Mais effectivement à voir l'expression de la vendeuse tu pouvais prendre ton temps... Ah, les portables... Belle et colorée photo, bien vu Laurent.

This photo reminds me of the phone calls I made to you in Phnom Penh from roadside girls who let me use their cellphones to call at 400 Riel per minute. I knew you would be very suspicious because the caller ID number would always change.

I agree about the light, in fact the girl in her frame of space is looking like a poster itself to me. The sharpness of the orange poster in front is better. And I compare why I posted a girl from Cambodia and here you have one from Thailand :) All the posters are colorful and interesting, and of course the best poster here is the girl on cellphone to sms.

I like night markets because you can always get very good prices for things, and a good way to see and talk to local people not in a rush like day markets.

Intéressante scène dans cette caverne d'Alibaba
La vendeuse est entourée par la marchandise; heureusement que tu n'as pas utilisé le flash. De toute façon la vitesse était suffisante.

Je préfère utiliser l'ancien site pour travailler car le nouveau n'est pas encore au point et moins pratique.

Une belle échope de souvenir bien capter dans les couleurs et lumière, une scéne de la jeune vendeuse avec son portable bien connue a l'heure actuel et qui prend beaucoup d'importance, surtout chez les jeunes..

Hello Laurent,
this is one of the most unusual and curious photos... with all the seeming chaos of various things for sale which we can see in the FG, the girl totally engrossed in writing an SMS looks the real essence of this composition (by the way, I see a strange juxtaposition with the b&w "face" on the poster (?) which is on the right (did you include it in the composition on purpose?)
About the "technical" side of the shot: I like it as it is! semi-dark, with deep dark, warm (and yet soft) shadows.
