One in a series of pictures taken on a boat trip on the Mekong River in Northern Thailand.
This area where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Burma meet is known as the Golden Triangle. Once infamous as a centre of opium smuggling it is now sold in Thailand as a tourist attraction. The article on the Golden Triangle in Wikipedea (click here for more information) seems to suggest that the opium trade continues in one form or another though much less overtly.

This is a totally other type boat that we here in the Western world use.
You took the boat out of a very well angle.
Excellent perspective and depth picture.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

i colori molto forti di questa barca, accendono la panoramica dai colori piuttosto piatti.

A familiar sight. Will try to locate a similar shot in my gallery and link to it. The green and blue colors of this distinctively shaped boat stand out against the pastel colours of the bg. Good sharpness and the flag is a nice addition. Tfs!

I exited Laos on a big dug out canoe and crossed the Mekong into Thailand.

Bravissimo.
Ciao e buon fine settimana

Hello Stephen. A colorful and exotic photo. Good light and fine composition. The Golden Triangle is full of attractions.

I have to admit, I am fascinated by the designs of some of these boats, to my eyes they look more like buildings, like somebody decided to build a barn or farm house on the river! Very nice combination of colours, and the rush of water showing its movement is a nice touch.
All the best

I remember these boats, this one seems to be one from Laos. They are the key for all the food and many other things in Laos, which they must carry from Thailand home. Good feature shot.
7 weeks in the cast, I think that was a bit to long. Broken bones begin bounding after 2 weeks and 4 weeks after the fracture the bones are healed. Your hand should have been in the cast no longer then 4 weeks. It is a pity that the physo did not give you back the full functionality of your hand. I do not know if something can be done after such a lot of time.
My surgeon, an orthopaedic doctor specialized in hand, macro surgery and nerve transplants, told me that he does everything to avoid a cast, because the hand would be forced to be lay still far too long. He explains me every week which exercise I have to do with my hand and it helps. The swelling is almost gone and I can make a fist. It will take 3 months more as the doctor said, to reduce the swelling to zero and give me the strength back in the hand.

this barge looks like a house and seems to be travelling quite fast:) I like very much how the frame matches its shape. The colours of the ambiance look soft and homogeneous due to the particular lighting and the haze. The vivid colours of the barge stand out in a superb way and make it so eye catching and interesting. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

I travelled by a similar boat from Golden triangle to Luang prabang. Believem it was an experience. A lot of people on board and luggage on the roof and many times it seemed that there is no balance. And narrow passages between the rocks. A woman came from time to time and told that we should change places from one side to another. Some people were frightened but everything went well. One day and a half of this trip, with a night in a place shown on the map(Pak Beng) but only a few houses there. How fun to see it again.

Good contrast of colors, well taken, perfect sharpness and light management, Tfs.

The bright colors of this odd boat really make it stand out against the hazy backdrop of the Mekong, Stephen. Interesting commentary on opium in this area as well - maybe it's better out in the open, but I'm amazed this is allowed to continue! I suppose rules are a bit lax in the border regions...

I also used this way to cross the boarder between Thailand and Laos in Bokeo province. I had one hour trip on the Mekong river by boat. Simple but very informative photo and the note. It reminds me my trip in this corner of the world in 2011.
