One in a series of pictures taken on a boat trip on the Mekong River in Northern Thailand.
This area where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Burma meet is known as the Golden Triangle. Once infamous as a centre of opium smuggling it is now sold in Thailand as a tourist attraction. The article on the Golden Triangle in Wikipedea (click here for more information) seems to suggest that the opium trade continues in one form or another though much less overtly.

Hello Stephen, you have managed to show the vastness of the area pretty well using the trees on each side of the river to hold the image together.

I was in Laos in 1998 and saw raw black opium on a stick in a street market. The Lao people made it clear through body language and eye contact I wasn't welcome so I didn't bother with any photos. So I couldn't say what the current situation is although I do know in Thailand a lot of the poppy fields have been replaced with corn, tobacco, cabbage and eucalyptus trees with strong government encouragement. I have been to Chiang Saen en-route from Huay Xai in Laos. The Mekong River is a major highway in this part of the world because of the mountainous terrain. Good backlight and sharpness here. Tfs!

a shot taken in difficult light, but you have managed it perfectly and made the image both fascinating and quite special. Well done!
Have a great weekend - Brian.

Nice view along this so well known river, and great that we can see the golden Buddha in the frame too, putting another nice view on it in addition to your recent shot!

Tu as laissé beaucoup d'espace à l'eau dans ta composition et comme le point de vue est très près de l'eau, le phénomène est accentué ce qui rend les centres d'intérêt difficile à décerner.

On the Mekong we did not go, instead we drove to the nearest hospital in Chiang Saen and from there to bigger provincial hospital in Chiang Rai, where we were staying any why. We will come back, because we have Thai friends in Mae Sai and we like Chiang Rai very much. Your fracture must have been the normal horizontal one, for me the radius was diagonally split and the other one was normal fracture. A cast was no option for me, because the fractured radius could not be relocated together. It is still swollen a little bit and I still have to excersise my hand a lot. Luckily I see results.
You shot shows the haze due to the slash and burn agriculture. We had the same problem. Otherwise pleasing POV and pastel colour tones. Well done

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Une vue étendue sur la rivière sur plusieurs éléments, je me souviens de la traversée du Mékong pour s'arrêter sur les terres du Laos
Bon contre jour, les reflets dorés sur l'eau, belle présentation

I like this view back, towards the golden buddha. The light was not favourable looking to this direction but we get a very interesting and agreeable impression of the scenery from the point of view of a boat going down the river. You've achieved remarkable clarity in the almost homogeneous chromatic context. The sparkling water looks lovely. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,
