Little girl with thanaka
This photo was taken in Ban Ao Salat on the island of Koh Kood. Ban Ao Salat is a tiny stilt-village and fishing community. Several of the wooden houses along a long jetty-promenade serve food and this is a great place for fresh-seafood lunch. While we were seating at one of these small restaurants, this little girl, the daughter of the woman running the place, was very much interested in these two "farang" customers. She was a sweet funny little girl.
Thanaka is a whitish paste made from ground bark. Burmese women have been using it for cosmetic purpose for hundreds of years. In addition to its cosmetic use, thanaka also gives a cooling sensation and provides protection from sunburn. The use of thanaka has spread to neighbouring countries, including Thailand.
I remember reading this advice about photographing children: avoid plunging view, go to their eye level, or just above. In the second case, try to have them looking slightly upward. I suppose I tried to follow that advice.

Meilleures salutations, Paul

A innocent girl with innocent eyes, she is cute. It's a very nice portrait you taken. Their make-up is just different from the Western world. They think it's beautiful.

Good capture of the Thai girl's enigmatic gaze with excellent use of a shallow dof. I've seen the same makeup in Mae Hong Song on the Burmese border. The warm skin tones contrast well against the blue rail and bg top left. Tfs!
