Mahachai Meat Market
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The fresh meat area of the Mahachai Market is typical of meat markets throughout the country. This market, however, had an ambiance not found in most being, practically, part of Mahachai's tiny train station.
When arriving at Mahachai Station, from the right side of the train car you are able to see clusters of chicken legs pointing skyward, slabs of meat hanging from hooks, innards, and most other parts of various animals, all lit by naked light bulbs. From the train you are so close that it is almost possible to reach out and grab a chicken by its foot.
This is a small part of a fairly large market. The rest of the market features, mostly, fresh (literally, "right off the boat" fresh) seafood, as well as dried seafood.
Mahachai is a small yet fascinating and thoroughly charming town.
For anyone wondering about the insulated Mister Donut mug (a small infusion of western culture, here), Mister Donut has been in Bangkok (at least) for over 15 years. There was no Mister Donut in Mahachai that I saw.
Photo notes: Tried to sharpen with PS, but only seemed to make the image worse. Just can't figure that tool out. Cropped slightly. Frame added. |

it must've been a difficult shot in terms of light - I personally hate naked light bulbs, never managed to get a decent shot in that light. but I quite like this one. I like the tight crop and a "crowded" feeling of the scene. and those expressions! priceless :) "this is meat, o-key, mister? don't go making dust with you camera" :) it might be a bit too pink, but I still like the shot.
as to the PP - I'm also an absolute beginner with the photoshop, but I found this e-paper quite useful.
best,
Kristine
