A Thai fishing village on a riverside setting, in a remote part of Samut Sakhon. A Thai friend drove me here, on the back of a motorcycle. It is a very rare scene, to see this in modern Thailand today. Most Thais now live in modern European style housing, adapted to Thai sensibilities. But this scene is still common in neighbouring Myanmar (Burma) which is in a time warp & more backward, thanks to the military junta.

Samut Sakhon is about 35 km south west of Bangkok, at the mouth of the Kwai River (& several other river systems.)

Hi Chris,
This photo is good for showing us not everything is made of shining pagodas for tourists, good light and angle as well as a busy atmopshere even though there is nobody in sight.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Absolute interesting to see this original place filled with all the gears of the fishers daily life. A bit bright probably the scanner combined with a little stressed dias - but not disturbing the compo and details too much.

Hola Chris.
This looks a very busy neighbourhood with all this washed household clothes, maybe because they have many children even though it looks an empty place. Very well captured, good composition and POV.
Well done. TFS.

Incredible shot! This has a a real feeling of authenticity and an air of real life that gives it a lot of impact. It really makes you realize how lucky we in rich countries are. Well done!

Hi Chris, It looks that it is a tough life living in the shelters like these. Thanks for going out adventure to get this kind of picture. Nice photo to record the real life in that part of the world. Thanks for sharing.

Bonjour Chris,
Bon POV sur ce village, un coin pauvre de la Thailande,et malheureusement bien réelle, bonne note
Amitiés

Interesting showing of the simple circumstances in which the folks are living here, Chris. Lots of details to be discovered. Other than pointing the camera to the scene and shooting it, I don't see much of an add provided by the photographer here, but I'll not be any grumpier and just call it a good documentary shot.

Hi Chris. Well this is certainly a very good daily life catch and documentary type of shot (I read Norbert's critique after writing that) :). They look to be hard working people without much money. Well done Chris.

Hi Chris,
A well composed shot of this village scene. What a slice of life! The details are clearly seen. I like the way you have framed and cropped for maximum impact. Well captured, Chris.
John

Reminds me of many similar places in Indonesia and Philippines. It may look better with full tide. It never fails to amaze how places like this remain so long. This photo is well worth 1,000 words. Well captured.

Hi Chris. A good daily life photograph that shows us the type of housing that tens of millions of people still live in around the world. I wouldn't say that this scene is "very rare" in Thailand. Perhaps not so common as in neighbouring Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, but there are still many rural areas on Thailand's coast where this scene is quite common. Cheers . . . David

I saw this in your "randoms" and found it interesting - only 35km out of Bangkok, amazing ! But then, it was taken in 1992 and has probably changed since then (although I saw similar settlements a bit farther than that in Thailand, not so long ago)
Very interesting to see how people live,
TFS,
Cath.
