Nonthaburi market

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Just a scene from Nonthaburi market, outside my school (worth a trip up the river for, by the way, if you're in BKK - hardly any tourists go there, so it's completely authentic and traditional, and they tend to be amused rather than annoyed by nutty farang photographers. Memorise this phrase: "tai roop dai mai?" - is it ok to take pictures)
Because I hurriedly snapped as many pictures as I could before this lady noticed me I didn't have time to focus carefully. As a result this photo came out very dark as the camera metered for the brightly-lit background. The other two were lit better, but I particularly liked the lady's expression in this one. So I've played with the levels and so forth, cropped in a bit, and converted to b/w so the graininess looks like it's "meant to be" haha! |

Hi, Charlotte -
Very nice character study. It's not really out of focus - check the hat lines - and graininess can add character. The background is a bit blown out, which PP can fix.
Your note reminds me of the first day I was in an Indian market, in Trivandrum. People actually ran up to me to get their pictures taken!
Regards,
Dan
Hi Charlotte.
Your school? If you're a pupil, your photographic abilities belie your years! This is a very competent street portrait. Excellent composition - just enough of the surroundings to contextualise and sufficiently 'candid' not to look in any way posed.
You probably need to experiment with using either the 'manual' mode or exposure compensation as there are areas of burn out in the top of the photo that could be within the sensor latitude. Always remember with digital that slight under-exposure is better than over exposure. Once something has burned out, the detail's gone. However, you'd be surprised what can be salvaged from the shadows..!
A really good photo with even more potential.
Regards, Paul.
