Photographer’s Note

The photo was taken in Kanchanaburi which is a province along the Myanmar border in the West some 130 kilometers from Bangkok. The attractions of Kanchanaburi are the historic railway bridge built by the Japanese during WW II, scenic Kwae Yai and Kwae Noir Rivers, cave shrines, Buddhist monasteries, hill tribe villages. The boy comes from the tribe called MON which consists of refuges from Burma who live in very basic and pure conditions but still are enjoying life. Though it is not easy. The forefathers of the Mon tribe moved to Ratchaburi during the first Rattanakosin period and lived beside the Mae Klong River . Even now ,they continue to follow their old tradition of paying respect to the household spirits, and the spirits of their ancestors. They are also very serious about their Buddhist religion, believing that they were the first race to bring Buddhism from India.

Hello Agnieszka,
Kids are always a nice subject, especially in Asia. They have big dark staring eyes and somethimes it seems they look right through you. Sharpness lies on his eyes, just as it should be. Hand in front is not the best part, but doesn't disturb me that much. Colour balance is also very interesting, a very nice tight composition...

Hello Agnieszka, very beautiful subject, but framing seems to me one nothing too tight, I think that to photograph the hand, to see both, in their entirety would be less reducing, if not the effect of insulation of the child by the fuzzy artistic one is ideal, sincerely ...............Bonjour Agnieszka, très beau sujet, mais le cadrage me semble un rien trop serré, je pense que photographier la main, voir les deux, dans leur entièreté serais moins réducteur, sinon l’effet d’isolement de l’enfant par le floue artistique est idéal, bien amicalement

Beautiful and perfect! The tecnique is perfect, the focus in the eyes and a shalow bg. The boys expression is nice looking at you with some question in his beautiful eyes. Love the color and texture treatment.

beautiful portrait. The focussing is great and the colors are beaautiful. The framing could be better I think.
If you cut off a part of the hair you could have cut off a bigger part to bring ot the shine on the hair and give more balance,

Hi Agnieszka,

well...if I'm being completely honest...I love it! I see it as perfect as it can be, so I will try to give you my best constructive imput why.
The focus: the focus on his eyes is superb. The use of opened aperture makes boy's face so soft and gentle as childhood is. His eyes are captivating, I could get lost in these dark marbles of sincere curiosity. The eyes that follow you for a long time in your memory.
The colour: brown yellow tones...warm but not to warm. Boy is in harmony to its background. It feels like he is...home.
Frame: simple. White. It gives all the room to the motive. To the boy. To his look. Hand is in a second plan, the crop went unnoticed untill I read the other critiques. Personally it didn't and still doesn't bother me at all. I'm to strongly captivated by his look.
Hopefully that does it. :)

Wonderful portrait. You have taken the focus from the eyes which are so dark and beautiful and sparkle thanks to the catch-lights. It would have been better without the hand, but I'm sure it would have been impossible to convey that to him. The almost duotone of the image with low saturation works very well.

At the outset, I want you to know that I am not reciprocating with points. I love this portrait of the little boy, where you have captured his soul. He speaks with his eyes, and just as much with this hand gestures. The colors are subdued and complementary, the resolution is very good— you can see the texture in his shirt, and the glistening of his hair. All the aspects collaborate to make this an exceptional children's portrait. You photography has improved in leaps and bounds.

Hi Agnieszka. You have timed this shot to catch the fleeting expression well. The colours look a little desaturated here? This suits the portrait well as vivid colours I feel would distract the attention from the child. Nice work and thanks for sharing.
