Taken at the Phua Luang Ta Ba Temple 40 km outside of Kanchanaburi Town on the River Kwai in Western Thailand. The temple is located in an isolated compound surrounded by sparsely inhabited and inhospitable country close to the Burmese border. The temple raises 8 tiger cubs that came to the sanctuary via various channels.
The relationship between the monks and their tigers has to be seen to be appreciated. The monks mind them with form of being able to defend themselves and put their entire trust in the animals. The trust has evidently become mutual. Unfortunately you are now unable to visit the tigers as they are now fully grown and the Abbott does not want to risk endangering the visiting public and also has decided that it is too disruptive for the tigers. I am blessed to have witnessed such a bond.

i think this shot is so simple and it's great that you chose to show it in b&w. i have a suggestion, however. why not blur the background a bit to emphasize the monk and tiger. i think it would be less distracting, especially the white branckes (?) on the right side. great shot and great notes. very informative.

I liked it framing, filling the image with the pretty pair, nice shoot in B&W.

what a great photo where both, the monk and the tiger, show emotions that are not commonly attributed to them: affection (monk) and mellowness (tiger).

Awesome photo! You captured a very special moment between "man and beast" :o)

A touching pix of man/beast. I really like your exposure and the rim-lighting of the monk and the tiger. I, too, have an F100 w/ 24-120. Did you shoot in color or b/w originally--and then scanned it w/what scanner? The pix is very sharp at the telephoto end--how did you get it so sharp? My 24-120 is soft at the long end.

It's a nice picture of this favorite tourist temple. You show the relationship between the monk and the tiger very well. However, you have given a wrong location, The temple is not at Chantaburi in the East of Thailand but in Kanchanaburi in the West of Thailand. The title below the picture is correct.
