He's back...the boy behind the leaves. This time, he's still behind the leaves.
I was photographing other kids..I moved here and there. He also moved here and tehre....but always behind bushes. This one came after the other one (that I posted). Once again, I gestured to him to stay where he was. I pressed the shutter during that moment that he was wondering what I was trying to tell him. After that, I went close to him and took some smiling shots. And I handed him some money. He ran away...smiling.
Afterwards....there came a group of boys. An dthey were gesturing that I take a picture of them too.:) And he was with them. I had a great time with them. Though it was a short time, I once again was in touch with my own childhood.

Great shot Manuel, great exposure, one of the best BW photo I've seen done with a DSLR. Great great light. An intense gaze and an intense photo.

A stunning image. Such bright eyes, rain drops on his black skin, posing behind the leaves. Excellent composition, perfectly captured.

Great photo. I really like the use of dark B&W in here. The water drops on his face and his eyes are well captured.
Very well done,

hi n=manuel, just an awesome portrait - love this intensive b&w, unsharp background, tension seen from the image;
best wishes, jerzy

This is really interesting Manny, it is great to see you show us something a little different. Your conversion to b&w is very high contrast and very eye grabbing. I wouldn't want to look through a million shots like this, but you have chosen a good frame to go with this look and it has created something really arresting and interesting. Nice work.

Great stuff, Manuel...Reminds me of the last part of "Apocalypse Now" when the hero arrives at Kutz' compound to assassinate him and he emerges from the river all camouflaged, and looking remarkabky like this boy here.
Very impressive B/W work.Bravo,Francis

A great portrait where you can see the world in the little boy's eyes. Great B&W effect.
gbarto (1275) 2005-10-13 10:07
On voit bien sûr d'abord les yeux.
Et puis, ensuite, grace aux feuilles qui barrent le visage on découvre le reste du portrait et c'est magnifique.
J'aimerais savoir utiliser le noir et blanc comme toi !
Superb shot. Of course, first, we see the eyes.
And then, then, thanks to the leaves which run on the face we discover the remainder of the portrait and it is splendid.
I would like to know how to use the black and white like you!
kensimage (8565) 2005-10-13 10:49
Manny, the strong contrast and the shallow DOF really bring out some of what this boy must have been feeling. It's nice how his left eye just barely fits between leaves. Windows to the soul, indeed! Great work. Regards, Ken.

This is truely a really black photo, man. You can noticed the white at his eyes only. And the black color is truely pure BLACK. Yea, too obsessive with BLACK!!

djslim (568) 2005-11-01 16:30
Great portrait. The B&W is really appropriate for this shot. The contrast really brings out the texture in this shot. It almost seems like he's hiding behind the tree.
fireflyz (2097) 2005-11-09 15:07
Fantastic portrait shot and post processing! we can see the jungle reflected in his eyes. The texture, tones and DOF are superb. Thanks for this favorite. As for you note, I felt the same way and had a wonderful time taking kids photos.
