Photographer’s Note
When Bangkok was established as capital of Thailand in 1782, the Royal City was created in a bend of the Chao Phraya river and encirculed by manmade canals, creating an island called Rattanakosin Island. On this island an area was walled in and come to house not only the King and his court but also the whole Thai Government, this is what is called The Grand Palace. It contains hundreds of buildings, palaces, temples and statues, the most important The Royal Palace and The Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The royal family does not reside here any longer (they now stay in Chitlada Palace in the north of the city), but the Grand Palace is still used by the King for certain ceremonial occasions.I took this picture from the roof of some department building across the street.I asked a man inside for permission and he was kind enough to lead me up to the roof, where I had a magnificent view!
The clouds were a bit grey that day, so I had to saturate the colours with Photoshop.
