One jasmine bud in a mountain of thousands on a vendor's cart in Pak Klong Talad (commonly known as The Flower Market). These are used mostly in garlands and floral displays and are found throughout the country. For those who are not familiar with their scent, it is fantastically beautiful.
On the darker side, there is such a demand for these flowers that in order to ensure that they reach their markets undamaged, large amounts of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides are used in the areas where they are grown. Adverse health issues are not uncommon in those who handle the flowers. This is an issue that is being addressed by the Thai Department of Agricultural Extension. |

I've lived in Thailand for years, and bought dozens of these jasmine garlands as gifts or fragrant additions to a vehicle or room. But, never observed one up close as in your photo. Something I love about macro photography: it takes a common daily object (such as this, in Thailand) and offers a whole new visual experience. I can almost smell the aroma! TFS
