"A shady character in a shady part of Bangkok"
...maybe he was thinking the same about you :)
I can really see the benefit of your f/1.8 lens here...the shady guy is sharp, to the point i can see he is smoking...
Despite the good things here, something just does not work for me ...I can't quite put my finger on it...I think it may be the lack of detail in the bottom left...I can see that there is someone there, but she is just not clear enough to give a good presence. Maybe I am missing something here...?
I see that you are a fan of that warm orangy light...I noticed it in a lot of your pictures, and I find myself getting it without really trying sometimes...the "waiting for the deal" picture of mine for instance, the lighting was quite different in the room, but it just seemed to come up quite well on the pictures...

this post gives makes me think seriously about this Sigma f1.8, very impressive photo, as well others of your recent. It shows also it's not necessary to buy Canon 5d to take photos in hard conditions..

Whoa, Darren! You are scoring BIG with me here (not because I'm a lover of Patpong, which I am not) but because of the mood you have evoked so successfully here. This is a great lesson in "less is more", man. Incomplete? Are you kidding?

Not sure what you mean by incomplete, there's enough here to evoke a strong suggestion of both the happenings and your opinion of Pat Pong. Personally I quite enjoy this kind of effect in photography, sort of painting with light.

It works wonderfully for me, you have the right position of the head with the hand, the gradual orange background is just greatshowing just enough the remaining tables and chairs !
The cheery on the cake are these colorful neon ligthing.
Thanks, Alain -

i'm a sucker for low light shots, and this one imo is a real winner (really surprised at the low ratings and views..) the cigarette (i assume) in his hand is awesome.. the warm light and colours ditto.. well composed too, he's well positioned in the frame, just slightly off center.. just wish you aimed a bit higher so the sign was included more...

this is very nice Darren, the mood is really special, very interesting light and you handled it very well, it looks like a heart. but I'd prefer to see the whole sign, one step back would help. nice image. when will you join flickr? everybody joins flickr these days ;)

The shillouette is perfect, the timing, the light, all very good... the crop of the title, though, is not so great... that would have completed the shot... and I like the centrality of the man.

Very impressive photo with an equally impressive lens. Beautiful orange tone. Superb silhoutte. But more than anything else, its the mood that you have captured in this 'shady' image that rocks.
With Greetings from India

Oh so close! This is a good photo Darren, but (as I think you know) it would be great it you got less of the bottom and more of the top in. Still, it's an inspiring shot.
