Photographer’s Note

Bangkok’s Chinatown Yaowarat is busy around the clock especially its two one-ways, this main road is outbound towards the Chao Phraya river. This district was founded when King Rama I – the founder of the current Chakri dynasty - decided to establish the capital on the eastern bank of the Chao Phrya River more then 200 years ago. The Chinese immigrants who were originally settled in the area what is now the Grand Palace next to the river had to move out to a strip to Yaowarat. Today Bangkok’s Chinatown an area of about 2 sq km, but the population density is extremely high, most probably the highest in Thailand.
