English: Temple of the Royal Restoration,
Thai: วัดราชบูรณะ.

This temple was built in the 15th century by King Borom Rachathirat II (1424-1448) at the site of the funeral (cremation) for his father and his two elder brothers, and at the place where his brothers fought and died.
After the end of reign of King Intharachathirat (1409-1424) his two sons Chao Aye Phraya (who reigned over Suphanburi) and Chao Yi Phraya (who reigned over Sanburi) met in battle, as each desired the throne. This took place at the approach to the Pa-Than Bridge and was a single-handed combat on elephant back that ended with the death of both. A third son, Chao Sam Phraya came down from Phitsanulok and accessed to the throne as the King Borom Rachathirat II. It was the seventh king of Ayutthaya.
In September of 1957 looters broke into the two-level crypt of the central tower (prang) and plundered a great number of relics interred with the two brothers.
The Fine Arts Department proceeded to excavate the site and found Buddha images and many artifacts made of gold. Some of the treasures are exhibited at Chao Sam Phraya National Museum (located nearby). In 1958 a stairway descends into the crypt was built, so now visitors can see several colorful frescoes from the Ayutthaya period.

Hi Robert!

Impressive and colorful temple you've captured here. Nice details and good composition. I think the picture might be better looking with the sky a bit darker.

TFS!

Hey Robert,

Great shot, love it. Although, i think you should have left a little more room on the right hand side of what looks to be an old pillar.

Well done,

-Adam
