Shot taken shortly after dawn looking north from the village of Karakul, on the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan. The ruins in the foreground are an old cossack barracks from the era of the 'Great Game' (late 1800's). In the mid ground you can still see frozen lake Karakul (Karakul is ~4000m altitude) and in the distance the Chinese mountains.

Welcome to TE !
Gosh, what a scenery with this snow covered mountain range
Just too bad that you did not have a better FG to go with it
I was not very far in KGZ and now I can imagine how the central Asia steppe looks like at spring

May I too extend a warm welcome to TE. This posting is very impressive. I can't agree with Patrick that the foreground somehow lets the photograph down: for me the desolate bleakness is enhanced by the bare and frozen rocks. And the ruined barrack block, as the only sign of humanity, emphasises the inhospitable nature of the place. Good work.

Welcome to Trekearth.
What beautiful white mountains. The contrast with the FG is amazing. A very frozen place, too frozen to live...
