Photographer’s Note

Silkroad travels: Pamir
We are inside a Kyrgyz yurt. The yurts appeared when we were driving downhill the Akbaital kashuu, at 4180 m asl. The stove for cooking and heating is in the center of the felt tent (see this picture). We eat on the floor, a nap was laid out for this. Shir chai (=butter tea) is served with kefir, bread and yak butter. On the stove chunks of yak meat were heated in water. The heating material is dried dwarf shrubs and Yak dung. The few trees growing in the lower valleys are used for construction, not for burning.

Shutter speed was 1/6, the picture taken freehanded, this explains the bad quality.
