Photographer’s Note

Today was a bit of a strange day here in Taipei. Being October tenth, it is sort of an Independence day, or maybe not. I have also had it told to me that October 25th would be more appropriate. Sorry, hard to explain, I certainly don't understand it myself, even after having it explained to me by my local friends.

Anyways, because it was double tens (Oct. 10th), there were festivities scheduled for here in Taipei and I headed down to the Presidential Building, which was supposed to be the scene of the festivities. However, for about a three block radius, all roads, alleys and everything else was barricaded, with the military standing guard. This was one of the guards. Not sure what credentials exactly I needed to get closer, but I didn't have them. This is one of the guards stopping people from getting too close. Finally, they did let all the people who were waiting in. After the wait, heading towards the main area, nothing was happening. I guess there was nothing planned for the more general public. Even later, I had read there were to be performances, but I couldn' find them. Kinda dissappointing that I didn't see more, but it was fun to take a few shots with the others who were waiting.

Handheld, ISO 200, focal length 200mm, uncropped, normal post processing.
