Photographer’s Note
The Matsu pilgrimage, where Matsu, Chinese Goddess of the Sea, makes a 300km round trip over 8 days, passed through my town of Changhua today, on her return to her home temple in Dajia, Taiwan. Along the way, various Matsu temples take their own Matsu icon along on the pilgrimage.
This shot is of the Matsu icon in the temple in my street, being passed over the incense burner as it's being returned to its home in the temple. The expression, and the movement, kind of sums up what the Matsu pilgrimage is like for the faithful.
