This guy was part of the Moon Festival temple walks in Tainan, Taiwan, along with a hundred other betelnut-chewing, beer-guzzling worshipers. I simply cropped, monochromed, and adjusted contrast/brightness.

Hi Kristy. This is a very good capture and the expression on his face is actually indicitive of the spirit he is meant to represent. It is, however, a little too blurred (no auto focus ;-) ) Only one other point. It seems to me that you should be cautious of how your description portrays the people you are photographing. You make Taiwanese people look bad by implying that they are ALL drunks and addicted to bin-lan. That their spirituality is somehow flawed even though these "betelnut-chewing, beer-guzzling" men do not represent the majority. Perhaps in that moment they did, but ultimately, IMHO, you should be more cautious. Remember, a persons image is ultimately their own. Cheers.

'lo Kristy, welcome to TE. I don't think his expression is particularly appealing but that doesn't really bother me much. I'm more disturbed by the black and white conversion that lacks some punch as far as I see it. I'm posting a workshop with an alternative version, although it is rather difficult to make something usable from an already highly compressed file.

Really great oriental charactor, Kristy
Unigue portrait of traditional Chinese. Good details of the make up art. Nice treatment of B&W. (but somhow I imagine that the color photo would be as nice as B&W)
