Railway line Photo

Photographer’s Note

My Taiwanese friend was taking me to some scenic locations in southern Taiwan where there are remnants of World War 2, and while we were walking through the countryside, we had to cross this railway line.
- There's one thing that bothers me in this photo: the palm tree in the top left corner - should I have cropped it out or tried to fit the whole tree in?

Nice shot, well composed.
Im not sure what you should have done with the palm tree. It doesnt bother me that much but I guess cropping it out would be nice to try,

The tree plays a positive role in framing the shot, so removing it alltogether would not be an improvement.
I took the liberty of editing the shot a little to se the effects and found that cropping the right side of the picture so that the windows in the far right build were removed had two upsides: the symetry was distorted making the shot a little more curious, and the post in the right side of the shot gained a little more importance in the framing while drawing less attention to itself. The thin beam at the top of the post going to the left I decided had to stay. I did removed the leaves on the right side of the palm tree. Removing tree does not work IMO. I also tried cropping the top of the picture in an attempt to let the bushes frame the left side of the shot. The tree is better though.

I really like the clarity of the foreground. It is a pity that there are no interresting details in the tracks in the front of the picture (I mean like in the shot by britt).
