execllent cropping. Intersting, humoristic and probably difficult to to.
Very well done

Only one word for this and that is: "WOW!". f/1.4 God, you're a lucky guy with such a lense!! :-)
Well, good equipment is one thing, but this is surely not an easy shot! First of all, there is a reason that those things are there, so getting a steady shot without clinging on to one of those yourself is already quite something! And secondly, if you're on AF your camera will go from hanger to hanger. And if you're on manual focus, you need to know what you're doing. And it seems you knew! Great DoF, great composition, great shot!

Good idea but what about being more selective on the hand or the position of the hand you chose, the problem comes that your subject looks more this way like a dead hand, a heap of fingers or a mickey mouse crippled hand than the idea of hands we would like to see.. a cute hand with delicate fingers and a slim wrist and why not sophisticated rings.. somthing that should be easy to spot in Asia where most of the women do have quite nice looking limb ends.
I feel here that your shot is just for the sake of the plastic triangle and not for the hand which appears almost like a random background... you prioritized the specs the wrong way around, this shot should work the reverse way, like a funnel of triangles as an introduction to an interesting item.

hello Darren ,
creative shot, a thing you see every day but never really notice. Well seen !

I imagine this was a really difficult picture to take...I've given up on my 50mm 1.4...I think I am going to sell it. I like what it can do, but its just too restrictive and its really hard work.
I kind of like this...the repetitive patterns on either side are quite cool. I wouldn't have minded just a little bit more of teh background, to see just a little bit more colour, as there seems to be some nice pastel shades on the bottom.
I quite like the shining of the plastic on the handle. I like this as an experiment...
You must have had some very strange looks when you took this...

I dig it, Darren. A very cool, wilfully experimental shot hat works in my view. You nailed the focus where you wanted it. My only real reservation is I would say this is pretty cose to a Treklens experimentation - uh, where's the culture, bro?
markoci (3927) 2007-06-08 11:46
reminds me of a similar one i took in seoul... i also wish we had a more interesting hand (in full view), and maybe a few more triangles to have a more funnel-like effect... keep on experimenting!

looking at those triangles makes me hypnotized...
great idea and even better performance. like the cropping and "water-drop-on-water-like" effect:)
