Photographer’s Note
This guy rents paddle boats at Green Lake. Most of those boats are rented by young couples in love it seems. We don't have them much in Canada anymore, but I remember at our local lake you used to be able to rent them in Lethbridge as well. U guess I just like the partially anonymous look to this guy as well as the river in the background.
Normal post processing, uncropped, handheld, ISO200, 160mm focal length.

Nice portrait Darren. The DOF is excellent and the blur is well renderred by your lens and focal length.

Mysterious, really makes me curious to see the rest of his face. I like a picture that leaves something to the imagination. The space in the frame is so well distributed with the large empty space.

So simple and yet so effective. That's one of the things that always amaze me in your photographs taken with the tele: a sharp portrait , with a blurred background ( resulting from a shallow DOF ), the colours being perfectly in harmony. I like the way there's plenty of space in front of him to the right of the frame. Very well composed.

Nice capture, Darren. What makes this shot for me is the large space of soft blur next to the guy's head. Nice composition.

Is that extremely shallow DOF made on purpose ?
It creates a good abstract feeling IMO, especially together with the uniform white background. I liek this original composition very much.

So simple – but so detailful at the same time. Beautiful. Excellent image.

I love the way the water just melts in the background; enough detail to indicate it's water but doesn't distract from the man's concentration. If I'm to be really picky I'd say you ought not to have cropped the top from the man's hat-- let the tip rest on the frame.

Simple but excellent.
I like the shallow DOF and the way you placed the man in the frame.
Good work

Darren
I like much; it is a very beautiful image
The compo is very simple but very effective.
Unicity of tonality is very well.
Strange atmosphere of serinity created by no background.
Congratulations

Great shot Darren!
Fantastic composition in this profile portrait. I like the fact that the eyes are hidden by the brim of the hat (even though the persons wearing sunglasses). By hiding the eyes, it adds a sense of anonymity to the photo.
Well done!

Hi Darren,
First time I see you on TE, and looks like I have missed out on a visual feast!
Great imagery offered here. The DOF and positioning of your subject make the photograph, enhanced by the detailing on the straw hat.
Well done. I will take time over the forthcoming weeks to examine more of your submissions.
Kind regards,
Vic, Singapore.
